Flamenco Is Hot!

Puela Lunaris' program on this DVD presents two campanilleros choreographies, each with a detailed step-by-step breakdown, plus performances in full costume. The first choreography teaches the original "pure" feminine style of dancing Flamenco: Baile Puro de Mujer. Sensual arms, exotic hand gestures, passionate turns, undulating hips and a proud torso are the characteristics of this original pure Flamenco style. There is practically no footwork: Footwork is an aspect of the dance that was originally reserved for men. You can dance this style barefoot or wearing flamenco shoes.
The second choreography shows you how to dance with the Flamenco shawl, the Manton de Manila. Puela Lunaris teaches the tricks and the classic technique of dancing with the Manton, including how to handle the shawl and how to enhance your dance through its use. You will find that these graceful poses and gestures are also of use in any social occasion that welcomes the elegance of a shawl on your shoulders.

Puela LUNARIS
A native Spaniard, Flamenco dancer and teacher Puela Lunaris grew up in the ruins of an ancient Moorish castle in Southwestern Spain. Hers was a childhood immersed in the traditional Flamenco culture.
A disciple of the legendary Maestro "El Farruco", Puela Lunaris is an acclaimed flamenco teacher, performer, lecturer and choreographer. She has taught throughout Spain at at such prestigious venues as Peter Gabriel’s W.O.M.A.D. Festival in Caceres, El Centro Andaluz de Danza in Seville, and La Escuela Popular de Musica y Danza in Madrid; in Miami Beach at The Performing Arts Network; and at The Juilliard School, The Open Center and The Instituto Cervantes in New York City. Miss Lunaris has also developed a curriculum with New York City Center Education Department to teach Flamenco in the school system.
Puela Lunaris founded the Dances of the World Society to fulfill her mission of preserving important Flamenco traditions that are in danger of extinction. This research work is reflected in her documentary “The Rap & The Cross.” Other productions by Puela Lunaris include four instructional videos titled: “Zambra Flamenca,” "Dance Today! Flamenco," "Flamenco: You Can Do It!", "Flamenco is Hot!"; and the music album “Flamenco Caliente!”

I personally like this DVD very much. But my friend (a professional flamenco dancer) found it not so good. We both think this is a good opportunity for bellydancers to add some "spanish flair" to their dance, but it is nothing for a already skilled flamenco dancer. I my opinion, a gypsy dancer would also find very interesting moves to add to her dance, as I did.
